It seems with the recent update Google have done with its PageRank toolbar, the web has been sent into a frenzy. Finally though it means that this will certainly cleanse the web of serious trash that exists for no other purpose than a quick buck. The really good part of all this is that now the door is open for a more viable solution to measure a sites value, or link strength as such. SEOMoz have such a tool, Page Strength.
Its no secret that Google want one thing; that being for those with any money what so ever to be buying ads from Googles Adwords and selling only their ads through Adsense. That is Googles objective. Google have certainly set themselves up to achieve this through their PageRank toolbar which created so much hype and you could even say, possibly made Google what Google is today.
The race is now on though, as Google have confirmed that any website selling links (advertising) and even those buying links (advertising) from any other website other than Google; Google have punished them through a reduced PageRank score. Now Google aren't stupid, they didn't reduce rankings or allow this to impact rankings, instead only the little green bar within the toolbar. People install that bar solely for the little green bar. If they took that away then Google would lose a lot of business through searches alone from that toolbar.
All I can say is that now levels the playing field a whole bunch. That means we can get back to playing with statistics, strength and how long a business has been in business. I know this domain got a healthy 5/10 strength score which really only confirms what I already know, being that this domain is around for the long term and is well and truly build into the web already with a lot of links pointing naturally at this domain.
Yes, advertising sales here are also down, though it will only be a matter of time before the entire world soon discover that no longer will advertising be purchased on Googles little green bar, thank goodness; and instead people are going to get back to buying based on overall site value and strength within the web.
To buy advertising you never buy on the current hype of any one thing, instead you plan and buy based on the future. Buying advertising is like buying an investment. You buy based on future return when it comes to the web, that is for sure, not on what the web will do for you now. The good thing with the web though is that you do have the flexibility to chop and change quickly as hype increases and decreases.
PageRank is definitely out though.... which is great. So I hope that Page Strength or another more accurate site measure comes through with guns blazing, because now is the right time to get into the market providing its an accurate assessment.
